Drug Awareness Week

Brice and Shelby have had Drug Awareness Week at their school this week. Everyday they have had to dress a certain way. The have had Too Bright for Drugs (wear bright colors and sunglasses), Team up Against Drugs (school colors), Red Day, Put a Cap on Drugs (hats), Turn Your Back on Drugs (wear clothes backwards). Each day the kids choose someone in their class that has dressed the best and then the teachers choose for each grade and for the whole school. Brice won for the whole school yesterday (red day). He was a super hero, he said! I just had to put this picture on here. I can't believe he actually went to school like this. It will come back to haunt him one day.

Carving Pumpkins

We decided it was time to carve the pumpkins tonight. Brice and Shelby worked on their own. (with a little help from mom) We had a lot of fun and they all look good outside the front door lit up with a candle. I took a picture but you can't really see because of the flash.

Shelby is working hard on her pumpkin!

Brice is giving it all he's got!

We are all working on cleaning out the inside of Eli's pumpkin! Shelby gags if she smells the inside of a pumpkin. She came up with this clever nose clip.

Eli is reaching in for a handful of "goo".

Eli wasn't too fond of the "goo" and he almost lost his cookies. He ran to the bathroom and came back crying. He wanted to carve his own pumpkin so bad but couldn't stand the smell or touch. Our cul de sac is getting together next Wednesday for a Halloween party. We are eating together and then the kids will go trick or treating together. We have so much fun doing this. I hope it will be good weather. I will take plenty of pictures and will post them next week.

Team Sports

This week in football we played the undefeated, Clinton. Let's just say they are still undefeated. Brice is the new punter. I'm not really sure how this came about other then the coach wanting to see what he could do. Brice said yesterday the team was watching a film of their game and the coach said, " Brice, where have you been all season". He did really good. When he was playing as wide receiver, he didn't get but one ball passed to him and the guy defending him was about two feet taller than Brice. It was thrown a little short so neither one of them got it. We have two more games left and then we are all soccer. In the picture above the coach is telling Brice he did the right thing. He had to jump for the ball to kick it and his kick was a little short but he kicked it to the side which made it go out of bounds. I'm assuming that is good...

One of his many kicks

He said it is scary because you have to concentrate on catching the ball and then hurry and kick it when you know their are guys coming right at you. He did have one punt where someone hit him after he had kicked the ball and they received a penalty. Go Brice!!!

Shelby had a great weekend of soccer. She won both of her games. The pictures are from the first one. I had to miss the second because of our trip to B'ham. (Brice lost both games. No surprise there!) Shelby didn't have any goals scored on her when she was in goal and she scored two goals and assisted two when she played on the field. She was so excited and worn out by Saturday night. She plays again on Monday night. Hopefully, we can continue our wins!! Notice in the picture below, her jersey says LifeBridge Church. The church was able to sponsor our team. Cool, huh?! Well, we should have a pretty quiet weekend at home this weekend. We have no soccer and not too much planned. I'm trying to get Eli to dance for me so I can get him on video and put it on the blog. Maybe I can talk him into that this weekend.

The Life and Times of the Thurman Kids

Eli is very excited that it was cool enough to wear his new pajamas. My mom took us shopping this week and Eli, Brice and Shelby all picked out Sponge Bob pjs. Eli is having fun watching football on tv. The other day before school I was busy getting things ready for everybody going to school and walked into our bedroom. Eli had the TV on ESPN watching sports center. I said,"What are you watching?" He said, "I love football". He and Brice have a game going in the den with a small football. One day they are going to really get hurt!

Shelby has been improving everyday with her clarinet. At first, it sounded pretty rough. I can't wait to hear her at Christmas. The band has a Christmas concert and they always surprise the parents as to how much they have improved. Shelby had a soccer game Monday night. They lost again but she played hard. We just can't get that ball to go into the net. Shelby had one shot on goal that I think was in but the ref thought otherwise. She gets her report card tomorrow. I already know that she made two B's and the rest A's. I'm so proud of her. She has worked really hard.

Brice is busy with his texting. That's all he seems to do these days. As soon as he gets done with homework he grabs that phone. We had a nice quiet night at home tonight and all I hear is that phone letting him know he has another message. We are in B'ham this weekend. Another (and the last) of the Premier League games. I'm ready to get all that behind us. I hope we will at least do better than we have been doing. I'm not asking for a win but a tie would be good. Or at least not a score of 5-0!!

I'm starting my Christmas shopping tomorrow so I will be watching these kiddos closely.

Shelby's turn

Can you see the smile on Shelby's face? She loves what she is doing!

The coach working hard at half time!

Well, I've finally gotten Shelby on my blog. She had a game on Monday. We lost 3-2 but it was an exciting game. We had lots of shots on goal but just couldn't put them in the net. Shelby had a good many saves and had a hard shot on goal but it hit the post. It was fun to finally get to watch her. She is good player but it's fun to see how much she loves playing. It's still fun for her!!

Here is a short video of Shelby playing. She is in goal and then on the field as number 12.
